Frequently Asked Questions
Do we have a medical doctor on staff?
Yes, we do. She serves as the clinic’s medical director. Her responsibilities include meeting with all patients at their first consultation and developing a suitable treatment plan for them, supervising treatment staff and treating patients with Botox and dermal fillers like Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse.
What does the Laser procedure feel like?
Many patients have described the treatment as being virtually painless. You can expect to return to your normal activities shortly after treatment.
How many laser treatments will I need?
For best results, an average of three to six treatments are needed in order to achieve the desired results.
What are the possible side effects of Laser treatments?
Although most patients report few if any side effects, the most common is a slight redness that disappears a few hours after treatment.
What is the difference between the clinic’s diamond microdermabrasion and the traditional crystal based microdermabrasions used elsewhere?
The FDA approved diamond microdermabrasion is an effective treatment to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, brown spots, scars and acne blemishes. This latest technology utilizes natural diamond chips plated to a stainless steel surgical wand to remove dead skin layers instead of using a stream of loose aluminum-oxide crystal particles as is found in traditional microdermabrasion treatments. This more advanced approach allows treating areas close to the eyes, lips and around the nose.
What are Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm and how do they work?
These dermal fillers are gels that are created from hyaluronic acid which is a natural material found in our bodies. These gels bind with water then slowly break down and are then naturally absorbed by the body. In the skin they create volume, resulting in a natural, youthful appearance. Restylane and Juvederm are used for wrinkle correction and lip enhancement. Perlane and Juvederm are used for shaping facial contours, correcting deep folds and for volume augmentation of the lips. Typically, lip treatments last about 4-6 months, while smile lines and folds last 4-12 months. Touch ups are sometimes needed 2-4 weeks after a treatment to “fine tune” your results.
What Makes Juvederm different from other dermal fillers?
Juvederm has the highest concentration of cross linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid based dermal filler which gives it a relatively longer effective lifespan. Juvederm is also the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.
What is cross linked Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. Cross linking is the process through which Hyaluronic acid is made into a smooth gel product that can be inserted into the skin for long lasting results.
What is the difference between Botox and dermal fillers like Juvederm, Restylane or Radiesse?
Botox is not a dermal filler. Botox relaxes muscle activity and is usually used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by frown lines between the eyebrows (the glabellar area). The forehead and crow’s feet are also popular treatment areas. Treatment temporarily diminishes these lines for a smoother more uniform appearance. The clinic utilizes Botox, in conjunction with other products, to achieve facial sculpting. Dermal fillers are used to fill in folds, creases and wrinkles. Some dermal fillers, like Juvederm, can be used to “plump up” the lips and add volume to the skin.
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy, developed in France over 30 years ago, is a series of treatments designed to remove cellulite or unwanted fat from certain specific areas of the body. This is done by using a very small needle to inject tiny amounts of nutrients, vitamins, amino acids and chemicals underneath the skin. Once injected, these nutrients and chemicals begin to break down the fat and cellulite in a targeted area of the body. The number of treatments needed is determined at the time of the initial complementary consultation. The injections are made by a trained MD.
